This book club is for those interested in understanding the intersection of motherhood, race, class, and gender, while critically examining how societal structures and systems of power shape experiences of birth and parenthood. Whether you are a parent, a birth worker, an activist, or someone with a deep interest in reproductive rights. Together, we’ll read, reflect, and challenge the dominant frameworks around birth, mothering, and reproductive justice. At the first meeting, we read Adrienne Rich's Of Woman Born.

For our second meeting, we will read Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines, a powerful anthology edited by Alexis Pauline Gumbs, China Martens, and Mai’a Williams. Centering the voices of Black, Indigenous, and other mothers of color, this collection reframes mothering as a site of radical possibility and collective care. The essays and reflections challenge dominant narratives about who is seen as a mother and what counts as mothering, offering transformative visions rooted in justice, survival, and love.

RSVP and join us as we continue unpacking how reproductive justice must include all families and all forms of caregiving, especially those forged under conditions of struggle and resilience.

We encourage you to buy from your local bookstore. If you cannot afford the book, search for an online copy to borrow at the Internet Archive
