Can there be a feminist AI? Could we craft AI for justice work? Or is it irredeemable, worthy of refusal? How do we account for the many ways AI is impacting the world?
The Feminist Artificial Intelligence Research group seeks to address these questions.
AI technologies are notorious for their many unjust practices--stealing art, disregarding intellectual property, propagating a culture of non-consent, egregious water & energy usage, exploitative labor practices, and wealth hoarding. Given this reality, what do we do and make with AI tools? Is this a time for refusal, or engagement?
AI is the enactment of someone else's fantasy. We dream too, while also staying rooted. We hold the materiality of information technologies such as AI and remember the tactile experience of bodies and technology as feminist scholars remind us.
We meet the first Wednesday of every month from 12-1:30 pm both online and in person. Each meeting, we discuss a project-in-progress and give feedback. If you'd like to join, please fill out this form, email [email protected], or show up in person! Filling out the form is required for remote attendees.
