corporate power

Artificial Intelligence

Can there be a feminist AI? Could we craft AI for justice work? Or is it irredeemable, worthy of refusal? How do we account for the many ways AI is impacting the world?  The Feminist Artificial Intelligence Research group seeks to address these questions.  AI technologies are notorious for their many unjust practices--stealing art, disregarding intellectual property, propagating a culture of non-consent, egregious water & energy usage, exploitative labor practices, and wealth hoarding. Given this reality, what do we do and make with AI tools?

What is Feminist Research: Kathryn Moeller

Professor Moeller discusses her feminist research on corporate power and the role of difference in the construction of the global economy. Through the example of “the Girl Effect,” Moeller looks at the ways corporate investment masks the targeting of young women of color through the use of coded, race-neutral language, as part of a larger expansion of corporate power over new populations, institutions, and geographies.
