FRI Feminist Writing Practices Collective Accepting Applications

Gain access to FRI's resources for your writing group in 2026-27

FRI welcomes applications from writing groups to participate in the 2026-27 FRI Feminist Writing Practices Collective. Selected writing groups will gain access to the FRI space to host writing retreats with nourishment for the body, soul, and mind.

Keeping up consistent writing practices is best done in community. Our writing can flourish when approached from a feminist ethic of care and accountability. This means accountability not just to deadlines, but to our well-being and relationships.

Writing groups must be conducting research that aligns with FRI's mission, vision, and values. This opportunity is open to faculty, postdocs, staff researchers, graduate students, and community researchers. Groups may meet once or multiple times. They may co-work or engage in critiques of works-in-progress. Groups must have a lead contact and include at least five people.

Selected groups will take part in an orientation of the space and discussion of feminist writing practices with Dr. Erica Cirillo McCarthy, PhD, Director of the UC Davis Writing Center. They will also be asked to share a summary of their group's work with FRI for an article on our website.

Apply here.

Applicants will need to respond to the following prompts:

  • Name of writing group
  • Lead contact information
  • How would you describe the research of this group?
  • How does the research of this group align with FRI's mission, vision, and values?
  • Who will be included in this research group? Please include names, department/organization, position, and email. You must have at least four CONFIRMED participants in addition to yourself.
  • When do you anticipate this group would convene for writing retreat(s)? Exact dates are not needed, but potential schedules are appreciated.
