Graduate Student Assistant
Candy Guinea is a PhD candidate in the Cultural Studies Graduate Group. Her research focuses on the impact of colonization on intergenerational trauma among Salvadorans and how the extreme violence of colonization has led to state sanctioned violence throughout the history of El Salvador. Using pláticas and testimonios, she also examines how diasporic Salvadorans from the San Francisco Bay Area are reclaiming cultural, ancestral, and Indigenous practices to heal from this trauma. She was born and raised in the Bay Area from parents from El Salvador and Mexico.
As a Graduate Student Assistant, she provides administrative support for events, programming, and content management at the Feminist Research Institute. She is thrilled to be a part of a unit on campus that prioritizes feminist, community-responsive, and justice-oriented research.
