Celebrate the accomplishments of Environmental Justice Leaders from across California. Meet the 2024 Environmental Justice Leaders, who will speak about their work in mobility justice and energy justice. Leading researchers, government officials, and policymakers in environmental justice will also be in attendance. 

Keynote remarks by Martha Guzmán, Regional Administrator of the US. EPA Region 9, and Nailah Pope Harden, Deputy Director of Equity and Tribal Affairs at Caltrans.

Nailah Pope Harden is the Deputy Director of Equity and Tribal Affairs at Caltrans. Prior to joining Caltrans, Nailah was the Executive Director at ClimatePlan, a non-profit that focused on partnerships to improve land-use and transportation planning with a focus on protecting health, communities, and climate. Nailah has more 15 years of experience advocating, organizing, and coalition-building of topics of transportation justice, racial equity, environmental justice and climate action. Nailah earned a B.S. in Government from Sacramento State University and resides in South Sacramento with her five-year-old son.

Martha Guzman is leading EPA efforts to protect public health and the environment for the region spanning Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, the U.S. Pacific Islands territories, and 148 Tribal Nations. Her focus is on advancing President Biden and Administrator Regan’s priorities in the areas of climate change, environmental justice and scientific integrity, and more broadly on achieving progress in making the air, land and water cleaner and safer for the residents of the Pacific Southwest.

The EJ Leaders program is a a partnership between the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies and the Feminist Research Institute.
