Mayra Sanchez Joins Californians for Pesticide Reform

Former FRI Staff Forges New Path

The UC Davis Feminist Research Institute has gained a new colleague at the nonprofit organization, Californians for Pesticide Reform. Dr. Mayra Sanchez has joined their staff as Associate Director and resigned from her work as the Research Program and Policy Manager for FRI in November 2025.

During her time at FRI, she expanded our impact by supporting the Asking Different Questions and Environmental Justice Leaders programs. She produced the EJ Leaders podcast series and taught a summer seminar on feminist approaches to knowledge production. She is an author on FRI publications including Mobility Justice: A New Framework and an emerging piece on Healing Relationships: Emotion Work in Environmental Justice Community-University Partnerships.

Her new position brings her closer to her dissertation work on how farmworkers negotiate and address toxic pesticide exposure in California's Central Coast. Prior to joining the staff, Mayra was a board member for the Californians for Pesticide Reform.

While we lose a colleague, we gain a collaborator. We wish Mayra all the best in her new role!
