Event Date
What does feminist theory have to do with research in Antarctica? Join Dawn Sumner, FRI Director and geobiologist, as she shares how insights from feminist research can impact fundamental science.
Looking at her work with a feminist lens has helped her to make new discoveries. She will share the importance of moving from models of individualism and competition to models of interdependence, intersectionality, and inclusion, both in her research and mentoring.
Dr. Sumner just completed a field season in Antarctica, where she studies microbial communities in ice-covered lakes. Her work helps us to understand the emergence of oxygenic photosynthesis in ancient Earth.
A half-hour talk will be followed by a discussion and community gathering.
This event is hybrid. If you wish to join remotely for the talk and discussion, register here.
