Bio

Kai Wen Yang researches the linkages between displacement, gentrification, urban planning, and capital accumulation in sexually ethno-racialized urban spaces. Yang is a postdoctoral fellow and is affiliated with the Department of Sociology and the Feminist Research Institute. Yang's recent works are on the reproduction of urban-racial regimes, zoning coalitions, and common sense. His dissertation is titled "Cycles Of Capital Accumulation, Bio-Politics And Displacement In Chinatown And The Lower East Side, Manhattan, New York City, 1965-2017." Yang's book project is a revision of the dissertation that focuses on displacement as a set of relational, multicontextual, and conjunctural processes that make and remake local urban spaces.
